City Council adopts updated Safety Element

On Monday, August 28, the City Council voted unanimously to adopt the 2023 Safety Element, an update to the Lafayette General Plan. The Safety Element discusses potential risks from natural and human-caused hazards and presents the City’s approach to minimizing harm to people, infrastructure, and natural systems.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the update of this important document by providing comments, attending meetings, etc. The Safety Element was developed over seven meetings with the General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC), and was reviewed by the Planning Commission at three public hearings and the City Council at two public hearings, before being adopted.

The Safety Element addresses emergency preparedness and response for risks in our local area, such as

  • Flood and Inundation

  • Seismic and Geologic Hazards
